This website is
dedicated to my great-great-great-great-grandmother, Laura McAlexander
(1840-1920). Book I commences shortly after her 19th birthday
(1859), and describes the peaceful day-to-day activities of a typical young Southern-American
female. The first book ends in late 1860, just before the Civil War begins. You’ll
notice a five year gap until we hear from Laura again, in which time the War’s
presence, and death of many family members and friends has forced a young girl
to grow up more quickly than she expected. I hope you find this information as
interesting as I have. Feel free to comment if you have ANY information that
can strengthen this collection.
